Our team led by Associate Professor Troy Gaston and Professor Bill Leggat University of Newcastle are working with local communities and management agencies to provide tools, support, training and research to understand health of the coral reef ecosystems. Our work in Samoa takes a catchment-to-reef perspective investigating all drivers of coral reef health from the inshore catchment to the individual corals.
Our team includes PhD Candidate from the University of New South Wales, Paige Sawyers, who has worked with the local community to undertake the scientific assessment of coral bleaching, which occurred across the reefs of Samoa during the 2024 global bleaching event.
